D.C. Greeks Come Together to Raise Funds, Run in Race for the Cure

Delta Tau Delta and Delta Delta Delta Alumni Chapters Raise More Than $2,600

WASHINGTON, DC (June 27, 2006) – Washington area alumni of of Delta Tau Delta fraternity and Delta Delta Delta women's Fraternity recently participated in the Komen National Race for the Cure . Twenty-six members and friends of the Tri Delt Northern Virginia Alumnae Chapter and the Delta Tau Delta National Capital Alumni Chapter raised $2,676 to benefit breast cancer research.

The 17th Annual Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation National Race for the Cure had more than 40,000 participants who together raised more than $2.3 million to fund the fight against breast cancer.

"I was happy to see our two groups come together for an important cause," said Rosario Palmieri, president of the Delta Tau Delta National Capital Alumni Chapter and race co-captain, "It is important that fraternity and sorority alumni find opportunities to continue their tradition of service after graduation."

"Participation in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure has become a highlight and great source of pride for the Northern Virginia Tri Delta alums. This race is about community – and being an active healthy participant within that community," said Cathryn Kingsbury of the Northern Virginia Alumnae Chapter of Delta Delta Delta and Co-captain of the race team. "Together we made a strong showing to help those in our area affected by breast cancer–and, we had fun in the process."

Plans are already in the works between the two groups for 2007 Team Tri Delts and Delts for the Cure. "I plan on signing up," added Kingsbury.

Delta Delta Delta Fraternity, founded in 1888, began as an organization concerned with the growth and development of the college woman and has evolved into a leader among sororities.

Delta Tau Delta is a values-driven fraternity founded in 1858. Its mission, "Committed to Lives of Excellence," is what the Fraternity represents. The National Capital Alumni Chapter (http://www.capitaldelts.org) was re-founded in 2003. Rosario Palmieri served as president in 2005-2006, and Chris Fedeli was elected 2006-2007 president in June.
